The results of the fourth and final CMB session of the year, Sweet and Fortified Wines, have just been revealed. This year, over 300 wines from 23 countries competed. In addition to the major producing countries of this category – Portugal, France, Italy, China and Greece, which dominate the competition – several surprises came from other nations. Greece  won a silver medal.

So, honored and proud to announce that Visanto 12 years old of Venetsanos Winery Santorini won silver medal. The prestigious sweet 12 years old Visanto was rated by 6 judges from Belgium, Greece and Australia.

Naturally sweet wine from white sundried grapes PDO Santorini

Grape variety Assyrtiko 70%, Aidani 25%, other white grapes 5%.
A special type of long-lasting matured Vinsanto. This naturally sweet wine is made from grapes left to dry naturally in the sun.
After the long-lasting fermentation follows a period of maturation in French oak barrels for at least 12 years before bottling.
The extended period of maturation leads to extremely sui generis olfactory results.

Aging potential: Unlimited.

Tasting notes

Viscous mouthfeel with hints of fig, raisin, caramel, slight vanilla notes and a mineral character.

Long-lasting aromas of dried fruits, honey, roasted nuts, coffee and bitter chocolate. Endless aftertaste. Enjoy it at 8-10 °C.

Food pairing notes

Pairs well with milk chocolate desserts with candy, nuts, foie gras, tarts, almond sweet coolies, spicy cheeses.
