As we conclude our showcase of the distinguished Greek wineries taking part in Greek Wine Day 2025, we turn our attention to one of the country's most historic wineries. Skouras Winery.
One of Greece’s historic wineries is that of George Skouras, a graduate in Oenology from Dijon, France. Founded in 1986, it initially began as a small production unit in Pyrgela, a village near Argos, renting vineyards and equipment from fellow winemakers in Nemea and bottling wines with manual machines.
From the very beginning, the goal was clear: to produce high-quality wine. The natural evolution was a boutique winery in the Nemea region, at Gymno. The countless hours of small-scale manual work provided valuable experience with the Agiorgitiko variety and the Nemea Appellation.
In 2004, the company moved to Malandreni, a nearby village northwest of Argos, within the Nemea wine zone. The new facilities increased capacity and technological infrastructure—not to make the wines more technical, but to allow better control. For the Skouras team, technology is merely a means of precision—the wines must be crafted with minimal necessary interference.

The story of Domaine Skouras begins and evolves alongside its flagship label: Megas Oenos.
Today, Megas Oenos stands as one of the most enduring presences in the European wine scene, with an aging potential that few Greek wines can match.
Domaine Skouras is located in the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Nemea zone. Nearby lies the important PDO Mantinia area for white wines, and the entire region is rich in remarkable vineyards. The Skouras vineyards extend from 60 to 1,040 meters above sea level.

Today, production reaches about 850,000 bottles per year, with 50% exported to over 25 countries.
The international varieties cultivated include Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Viognier, while the native Greek varieties are Agiorgitiko, Moschofilero, Roditis, Assyrtiko, and Malagousia.
They will present two labels:
-
Mantinia 2024 – 100% Moschofilero
-
Assyrtiko Wild Ferment 2024 – 100% Assyrtiko
