On Thursday May 9, on Ascension Day – which is celebrated as a bank holiday in France – producers from the Mâcon-Chardonnay appellation gathered on Place de l’Eglise to host tastings of their wines. To draw in the crowds, the village organised an exhibition of vintage cars, a blacksmith’s workshop and a pop-rock concert. For foodies, ham was cooked on a spit.
Throughout the day, as is customary, everyone was invited to share their experience of the grape variety on social media, using the hashtags #ChardonnayDay and #Bourgogne.
Next year, the village of Chardonnay will be hosting the 43rd Saint Vincent Tournante.
