VERGOS Auctions inaugurates a new era for Greek wine production and, at the same time, a new category for the House by organizing an auction exclusively dedicated to Greek wine. The auction will take place with the presence of an audience on Sunday, December 14, 2025 (13:00) at the Papagiannakos Winery in Markopoulo, Attica, and aims to showcase the uniqueness, quality, and international potential of Greek winemaking.

Nineteen wineries from every corner of Greece will participate with 127 fine and rare labels originating from the cellars and personal collections of the winemakers themselves. Among them are bottles over 20—and in some cases over 30—years old, large formats of 3, 6, and 9 liters, as well as bottles with hand-painted labels.

With this new thematic auction, the House offers collectors, wine lovers, and professionals the opportunity to acquire distinctive labels that are not easily found in the primary market. At the same time, the auction:
-
contributes to promoting the uniqueness of Greek varieties and terroirs to a wider audience in Greece and abroad,
-
creates a new, modern platform for dialogue and outward-looking engagement for the sector, following the model of equivalent international markets,
-
integrates Greek wines into the international category of collectible wines through their participation in a prestigious auction backed by the expertise and reliability of VERGOS Auctions.

The catalogue of this first wine-dedicated auction has been curated by wine critic and author Yiannos Konstantinou. Konstantinou has been writing about wine for 27 years and has published 13 books and wine guides. His book “The Cyprus Wine Guide” was awarded at the Gourmand International Awards as the Best Wine Guide in the World (2006), while his book “Discovering Wine” (Metaichmio Publications) was awarded as the Best National Wine Book in the Greek language.

Andreas Vergos, Managing Director of VERGOS Auctions, states regarding the Greek wine auction:
"Our involvement with Greek wine is an absolutely natural next step for our House. We believe that the time has come for great Greek wines to find their place in an organized, transparent, and outward-looking secondary market, just as happens internationally with the category of fine & collectible wines. The particularly warm response from winemakers and professionals in the field confirms that Greek wine production is now ready to stand on equal terms alongside some of the world’s most renowned wine regions."

Ways to participate
Anyone present at the Papagiannakos Winery on the day and time of the auction may participate. Interested parties may also take part through written or telephone bids, as well as online—live via the House’s website: www.vergosauctions.com.
