The focus on the wines of the "volcanic" territories of the world is back, in the event of the Master Sommelier John Szabo and Colangelo & Partners.
Very different from each other in origin and vines, they have the common trait of coming from volcanic soils, with characteristics played between drinkability, acidity, freshness and complexity, which fascinate more and more wine lovers and not only. And so, therefore, the "volcanic wines" from all over the world meet once again in one of the "trend setter" cities par excellence like New York City. Where on June 21st the edition n. 3 of the "International Volcanic Wine Conference" will be on stage, which will bring together more than 40 wineries, from all over the world, with a lot of Italy (with names like Pietradolce, The Lake County Winegrape Commission, Alberelli di Giodo, Weingut Krispel, Firriato Winery, Passopisciaro, Inama, Estate Argyros, Gaia Winery, Domaine Sigalas, Tenuta di Castellaro, Massimo Lentsch, Tasca d'Almerita - Tenuta Tascante, Obsidian Wine Co, Sassotondo, Tenimenti Leone, Tenuta Costantino, Duca di Salaparuta, Donnafugata, Planeta, Cantine del Notaio, Azienda Agricola Elena Fucci, Azores Wine Company, Bosco de' Medici, La Guardiense, Cottanera, Azienda Agricola di Graziano Prà, Suavia, Nicosia, Artemis Karamolegos, Tsiakka, Vinea Ardua, Hamel Family Wines), from over 15 wine regions, directed by Master Sommelier and volcanic wine expert John Szabo, and Colangelo & Partners, one of the most important PR and communication agencies in the world of wine in the USA.
The International Volcanic Wine Conference will kick off with an opening session, led by John Szabo, followed by a walk around tasting and three Masterclasses, organized by "Lake County Wine Grape Commission", "Santorini Volcanic Terroir", together with volcanologist Georges Vougioukalakis and Winebow Imports, an import company that will present the seminar entitled: "Volcanic White Wines From Sicily to Soave to Santorini". The variety of wineries and regions represented, together with the educational focus highlighted by the guided seminars, make the International Volcanic Wine Conference, a unique event of its kind.
"In a world where uniformity is king, volcanic wines stand out, distinctive and individual expressions well recognizable - says John Szabo - with this project I hope to put the spotlight and safeguard regions and vines that risk disappearing due to extreme wine-growing and cultivation conditions and lack of awareness on the part of consumers (and therefore low prices). It's my way of supporting diversity and preserving the world's viticultural heritage."
"We are witnessing - added Gino Colangelo, president Colangelo & Partners - a solid increase in visibility and interest in the diversity offered by wines produced from volcanic soils" "In a market saturated with offers, wine lovers, professionals in the sector and the press are looking for wines that stand out and are unique. The wines and wine regions represented this year have been included in some of the major newspapers including "The Guardian", "Decanter", "Wine & Spirits Magazine", "The Drinks Business", "Gault Millau" and "JancisRobinson.com" as well as being appreciated by sommeliers for their distinctive characteristics". The story of a niche that is not so niche, that of wines from volcanic soils, which receives more and more interest and attention, all over the world.
